Your privacy is important for you and for us at 12andus.
When you are registered and become a member of 12andus, we collect some information. This document tells you how we manage that data and is part of the Terms of Service. If you don't accept the following policy, please don't register to 12andus.
12andus is a site offering various astrological reports based on the birth data provided by the members. There is also a social part where members can connect to each other and discover astrological compatibilities and areas of mutual attraction.
12andus is for use of people 13 years old and older, sorry. Please only register if you are older than 13.
When you register as a member, we ask for a username, a password and your email address so that we can create your account. We store this data as well as the IP address of your registration so we can prevent any abuse of our service and other members.
When you access 12andus, we log some information, including your IP address, what browser and operating system you're using, and the address of the site you cam from. This is used to gain an insight into how people use 12andus, and how we can better customise a visitor's experience.
In order to calculate your astrological reports, we ask for your birth date, time and city, gender, and other information in order to present you with better matches. We also allow you to write a short description to describe yourself.
Some information you provide, e.g. your gender, your city of birth, the “About me” and your spoken languages, will be available to visitors. However, your birth date and time will only be visible to members when you ask or accept a friendship with him/her. By befriending another member and sharing your birth data information, you can run astrological reports about your friends and they can run astrological reports about you.
12andus allows you to insert, edit and delete a list of people with their birth data so that you can run astrological reports on them. We store this data. The birth data that you enter will stay private to you, and will never be shared with any other member.
12andus stores some information about how you interact with the site and its members, for example when you view a member profile or calculate areas of mutual attraction. We store this information for statistical purposes, but never divulge it to a third party. We might analyze your use of 12andus for research purposes, for improving the service and for offering a better user interface.
12andus allows members to write and comment on blog posts within the system. The blogs you write are public. If you delete your account these posts will be archived and remain publicly accessible.
12andus allows members to send messages to each other. These messages are private to you and the receiving member, however, 12andus administrators might access those messages in order to provide user support. If you delete your account, messages that you have sent will be archived, but not deleted.
12andus membership can be upgraded to premium to enjoy more functionalities and features. If you upgrade your membership, the fact that you have done so will be made visible on your profile. If you upgrade your membership by paying, 12andus will store the transaction number and the date of the payment, however we do not store your credit card information.
If you choose to invite friends on 12andus, you have two ways. One is by sending an email message to a list of email addresses you choose. In that case, we will send the invitation email with your email address as the sender.
We will not sell or share your private information, such as your email address, your birth data, your private messages or the birth data you add, with any third party. This information is kept strictly confidential and will not be shared without a very good reason.
We may disclose your information if we are compelled to do so by law, or if we have good reason to believe that disclosure might prevent harm to a person or property, for example, in cases of abuse, threats or scams.
As Wikipedia defined, “A cookie, also known as an HTTP cookie, web cookie, or browser cookie, is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user's web browser while the user is browsing that website. Every time the user loads the website, the browser sends the cookie back to the server to notify the website of the user's previous activity.” 12andus sets cookies in order to authenticate your session on the site, to track your preferences such as your chosen interface language, and for the analytics data. You can set your browser preferences or options in order not to accept cookies, but in this case 12andus services might not work properly for you.
12andus uses Google Analytics and Piwik, services that generates statistics about a website's traffic and traffic sources, to collect statistics data about how 12andus is being used and where visitors come from. Those services collect just your IP address, not your username or other personal information. Google Analytics and Piwik set cookies to identify unique users. You can disable Google Analytics or Piwik from recognizing you on successive visits by disabling cookies in your browser. You can change your profile information at any time by clicking on the “Profile” menu item and then on “Edit profile”. You can change your username, email address, birth data. “About me” information, the languages spoken, the city of residence and the social connecting information as the gender(s) you are attracted by and the age range.
You can delete your membership at any time going to the “Settings” page. Your profile will not be visible anymore. Your profile information, profile picture, and any blog posts you might have written will be archived.
12andus works hard to keep your data private and safe, and always follow industry best practice. However, security is also up to you, for example setting a strong password composed of letters, numbers, and special characters, and never divulging this password to anyone.
We might update this policy to reflect new features or new legal requirements. We will notify members should we do so, and the latest version will always be available at https://12andus.com/privacy.
