While I documented the dominant planet meanings in several posts, a number of users asked me the meaning of the most important (dominant) sign and if it's the same as if they were born under that sign, with the Sun in such part of the zodiac.
Having a certain dominant sign is not the same as being born under that sign. The power of the signs in a natal chart are calculated by a complex algorithm, which takes into consideration the power of the planets present in the sign, the house or houses occupied by the signs (a house can intercept more than a sign) and the type of aspects.
As an example, if a person's dominant sign is Pisces, can we say that this person has many of the Pisces’ qualities? If the person's dominant planet located in Pisces is the Sun, we might say so, but if for instance Mars dominant and Uranus are the planets located in Pisces, Pisces' values become quite overturned by those partners in crime. Since Mars is not at his best in Pisces, it takes a number of important aspects for Mars to become the most important planet.
However, Mars dominance will get colored by the dominant sign Pisces. Mars is the planet of action, competition, sexuality and fight while Pisces conveys passivity, dreaminess, and sensitivity. How do those buddies combine?
While the Mars dominance still characterizes the person, it will express compatibly with the dominant sign. Rarely will a Mars-Pisces person express their assertiveness directly.
Nonetheless, the drive to command and assert will be there and might manifest compatibly with the sign of Pisces in a passive-aggressive or manipulative way. Or, in a more evolved manner, the person will use the strong Martian qualities to support the less fortunate, thus fulfilling Pisces' compassionate nature, like a spiritual warrior or a warrior for justice.
While the sign of Pisces can't be easily defined as a “warrior,” when combined with a Mars dominant, it absorbs the Martian characteristics by morphing them into its passive and compassionate nature.

Let's say that Mars and Uranus, when together, are like gasoline and fire. Action comes before thinking.
There's an immediate drive toward action and excitement. However, if there isn't a direct aspect between the 2 planets, they might express their nature individually. You might have a basic Martian attitude toward life, with fast decisions, competitiveness, plus Uranus traits as love of high technology, independence and a knack for anything unusual and out of the mainstream.
Both planets' aspects and collocation in the houses should tell more about the direction where such high-voltage energy is directed to.
Well, my Mars is in house 2, sexile my Ascendant, Uranus is in house 1, also sexile my Ascendant. And if it helps, Saturn is also in house 1, but it makes no aspects to my Ascendant, only my Midheaven. What does that say?. My name is Sean by the way. My Ascendant is Scorpio.
hi Sean, Looks strange that both Mars and Uranus are sextile to your Ascendant but not conjunt to each other. I asked your friendship so that your birth data will be better available to me.
hi Sean, yes, Uranus is semi-sextile to your Ascendant, which is a 30 degrees aspects, while Mars is sextile to your Ascendant, which is is a 60 degrees aspects. While Uranus is in your first house, Mars is in the second house.
Your dominant planet is Mars, and we might expect that you show visible Martian traits. But since Uranus is your second important planet, a co-dominant, and located in the first house, where the external personality is displayed to the world, my best guess is that you "look" more Uranian to people around you, with a serious Saturnian "flavoring".
However Mars still is your dominant planet, in Capricorn, where is exalted and in the 2nd house, probably giving perseverance, steadfastness and strong competitive energy in your career and financial matters. Mars' style in such position resembles a military tactician. In such position, the instinctual-aggressive energy can be channelled through Capricorn's planning nature.
Hey Ivo, many thanks for the reply and the information you have provided, it was insightful. Does my co-dominant Uranus and my Saturn have any influence over my personality?, or do they just effect my appearance and aura?.
hi Sean, yes, co-dominant Uranus and Saturn have influence over your personality as well, they don't just act on the appearance.
The physical appearance associated to the planets and the dominants is a fascinating subject.
While the physical appearance is usually more connected to the Ascendant, also the dominant planet has a role in shaping it.
According to the Uranian traits, the body might be slim, without well defined specific gender attributes, sparkling, with "eletric" eyes, and some irregular or unusual features compatible with Uranus' unconventionality. There's a non-common charm in the overall appearance.
In any case, is hard to picture the physical traits based on the dominant only. In my opinion it works more on the energetical level than through well defined body traits. And just one single important aspect can undermine the whole dominant planet hypotesis... one person I know is Saturn-Mercury dominant which "in theory" should be slim and "dry" but... a Moon in Cancer conjunct Jupiter made him quite "big".
Hi, once more thanks for the reply and for shedding light on Uranian characteristics and appearance. I find the study of planets in an astrological sense in general to be a fascinating subject, and like you, I do believe they have more of an influence over us than the actual zodiac signs, to me the signs are sort like archetypes, kind like a tool for people to come to terms with type of energies these planets emit. In fact, I read somewhere that scientists did discover that planets do emit frequencies, something like an Orca whale, or dolphin does, but not quite the same. So who's to say that these frequencies/vibrations don't literally have sway over people, it certainly sounds more reasonable than relying exclusively on the signs, as is common practice, and also like you, I believe astrology with emphasis on the planets is what the future has in store for this school of thought.
The be next question comes I'm about ask may seem slightly abstract. I suffer from tremors which came about due to a trauma that was consistent in pattern, do you Uranus might of helped having a hand in creating these tremors, since it's in the first house, which governs, among other things, the body, and Uranus is an electric planet, so I would imagine an electric planet has influence over the nervous system. What do you think this of such a notion?.
I apologize for the typing errors, sometimes my mind goes faster than my fingers. Also while growing up, I've always felt like the odd one out, and alone in a crowd, it was hard for me to make a meaningful connection with someone, it was all almost like I didn't know how, and people didn't consider me that approachable, like I was hard to figure out, and to be honest, sometimes I can't figure myself out. Do you think Uranus might also have say in this matter?.
As for my physical appearance, what you said is accurate, though I think my shoulder region is less slim and more developed, I think that's down to Mars more than anything. As for my face, a lot of people are surprised when I say I'm from my country of origin, they think I'm from another country.
I agree. If different sound waves can produce different patterns, according to cymatics, and ultrasound waves can heal deseases, I don't see why the planets' frequencies can't contribute to give shape to our physical traits.
Most of scientists would say that those frequencies are too weak and subtle to produce any influence. But what do we actually know? There might be undiscovered physics laws. Also homeopathy is not compatible with mainstream medicine, but doesn't mean it doesn't work.
Till now we don't exactly know how aspirin exactly works, but this didn't prevent its use.
About your trauma and nervous system involvement, definitely Uranus is connected to the nervous system and the first house to the physical body. And I feel your pain. I also had a trauma along with a shock to my spinal cord (when Mars and Uranus were transiting conjunt to each other forming a square to my natal Mars/Uranus conjunction). Fortunately I recovered after few months.
I agree to all of the above that you've mentioned. I'm glad you got over your ailment, mine is ongoing and may never correct itself. And do you think Uranus may also of had a hand in my life experiences of feeling like the odd one out that I wrote in the above sentences?.
Uranus IS the odd one but wants and likes to be the odd one. Uranus loves to provoke and to be out of the stream. "Feeling" the odd one is another matter and we need to understand what's underneath the feeling. If it's actually about feeling rejected it has to do more with the Moon's need for belonging and support. Often things gets mixed up, as your Uranus part might be proud of your uniqueness while there might also be an issue with the Moon.
It might also have to do with having both Uranus and Saturn in the first house, as these two planets seem to contradict each other, Uranus longs for freedom of expression in every sense and to be it's own genuine autonomous entity, while Saturn is rigid, and advocates conformity.
Plus, Saturn is mythologically associated with Kronos, the titan who was father to the Greek pantheon of God's, who tried to eat his own children, not a very happy go lucky planet. He/it was often depicted wielding a scythe in a chariot. If that planet had a motto it would be: you reap what you sow.
